TCN Receives Transformers to Boost Katsina Power Supply

On July 9, 2026, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced the delivery of two new 100MVA power transformers to be installed at an ongoing 330/132/33kV transmission substation in Katsina. According to Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, this delivery is part of TCN's strategic grid expansion project aimed at strengthening the national grid network and improving bulk electricity supply in Katsina State, located in the northwest region of Nigeria.

The transformers are critical components required for the completion of the substation. Once installed, tested, and commissioned, the substation will increase the region's transmission capacity by an additional 160MW.

This enhancement will improve the reliability and flexibility of overall power transmission, significantly boosting TCN's capacity to evacuate additional bulk electricity relevant to distribution companies serving Katsina State and its environment. The project is part of TCN's nationwide drive to expand and modernize Nigeria's transmission infrastructure to meet the country's growing electricity demand.
