TCN Grants Access for Kainji Substation Expansion Project
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has formally granted Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL) access to the Kainji hydro power plant site in Niger State for the construction of two 330kV bays. The handover occurred on June 5, 2026, and was conducted by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN.
The construction project will include civil, electrical, and mechanical work, with the aim of completing the task by December of the same year. The two bays will enable the evacuation of an additional 220MW of power, integrating two new turbines, IG3 and IG4, each generating 110MW, into the national grid.
The project is being executed at no cost to TCN, and Engr. Cleber Romao Grisi, Chief Technical Officer of MESL, expressed appreciation for the site access, assuring that the project will be completed within the agreed schedule.
The handover ceremony also included key figures from TCN and MESL, marking a significant milestone in improving Nigeria's electricity supply.
