TCN Educates Ogun Communities on Power Infrastructure Safety

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) organized a sensitization program in Ogun State to educate local communities on the importance of protecting power installations and the right of way. The program aimed to inform residents about the dangers of erecting buildings within transmission line corridors and the consequences of actions that threaten power infrastructure.

Charl Iwuamadi, the Assistant General Manager of the Benin Region, and Mathew Ariyibi, the General Manager, emphasized the necessity of community involvement in monitoring suspicious activities around transmission facilities. They noted that community members often observe unusual movements and should promptly report these to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.

Abaniyo Otaru, the Principal Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment, described vandalism as a deliberate act that disrupts electricity supply, weakens economic activities, and creates opportunities for criminal activities. He warned that tampering with the 330 kilovolt transmission lines endangers lives and destabilizes power supply, urging community leaders to support efforts to protect transmission installations.
