Team Edo Wins 2nd Niger Delta Games, Ends 24-Year Wait

Team Edo claimed the title of overall champions at the 2nd Niger Delta Games, concluding on the night of the event at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Edo State amassed a total of 52 gold, 34 silver, and 25 bronze medals, marking a significant achievement that ended a 24-year wait for regional supremacy.

Edo's arch-rival, Delta State, finished in second place with 39 gold, 29 silver, and 34 bronze medals, totaling 102 medals. Bayelsa secured third place with 25 gold, 24 silver, and 26 bronze medals.

The competition featured 3,000 athletes from nine Niger Delta states competing in 17 sports events, sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, expressed pride in the athletes' performance and emphasized the state's commitment to sports development and athlete welfare.

The success was attributed to disciplined preparation and strong leadership.
