Teenage Herders Killed in Plateau State Attack

On February 21, 2026, three teenage herders, Muhammad Sani and Bilyaminu, were killed in an attack along Dorowa Jong Road in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) condemned the attack, labeling it unprovoked and senseless.

This incident occurred less than 48 hours after a previous ambush by armed militia that resulted in the deaths of two herders. MACBAN reported that the victims were grazing cattle when they were attacked, and their bodies were later found in shallow graves.

Security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and police, are involved in the investigation, with Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh confirming troop deployment to the scene. MACBAN accused members of the Berom community of being responsible for the attack, a claim denied by Rwang Tengwong, the public secretary of the Berom Youth Moulder Association.
