ALTON Rejects NBS Report on Telecom Foreign Capital Inflow

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), led by Chairman Gbenga Adebayo and Public Secretary Damian Udeh, has rejected the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report that shows a significant decline in foreign capital inflow into the telecommunications sector, dropping from $80.78 million in 2025 to $7.24 million in Q1 2026. ALTON criticized the report for not accurately reflecting the total capital activities within the sector and called for collaboration among stakeholders, including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to develop a comprehensive investment tracking framework.

They highlighted the importance of accurate data in shaping investor perceptions and guiding policy decisions. ALTON also acknowledged the federal government's approval of a 50% tariff increase in 2025, which they believe will stabilize the sector and address revenue gaps.

They reported a total capital expenditure of N2.13 trillion planned for 2025, aimed at network infrastructure expansion and technological enhancements.
