Junior Tennis Tournament Offers Grants and Scholarships

The Tennista Foundation, in partnership with the American Business Council Nigeria, is hosting a junior tennis tournament at the Lagos Country Club in Ikeja, which began on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday. This tournament features U16 and newly introduced U12 categories, with separate male and female draws.

Winners in each category will receive an educational grant of N150,000, along with a tennis racket valued at N260, tennis balls, and a school bag. The second-place finishers will receive N100,000 and similar prize packages.

Michael Nwoseh, the president of the Tennista Foundation, emphasized the tournament's role in securing tennis scholarships in the United States for outstanding players. Tund Benson, captain of the Lagos Country Club tennis section, expressed pride in hosting the event, which aims to support youth sports development.

The tournament is seen as a crucial platform for talent discovery and development in Nigeria.
