Kwankwaso Set to Defect to ADC, Deputy Governor Resigns

Tension is escalating in Kano State as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), is expected to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) next week. This move is anticipated to significantly impact the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, as Kwankwaso consults with opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, during recent discussions.

The potential defection is believed to unsettle major political camps, including those aligned with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Additionally, Nasiru Gawuna, the APC governorship candidate from the 2023 elections, is rumored to be considering abandoning the party for the ADC, which could weaken the influence of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has resigned, citing difficulties in fulfilling his responsibilities due to recent circumstances, while clarifying that his resignation does not imply any wrongdoing. He intends to focus on strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the elections.
