Tension in NSCDC as Commandant Refuses Handover

Tension has emerged within the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as outgoing Commandant Ahm Audi has reportedly refused to formally hand over to Deputy Commandant General Nnamdi Nwinyi. This refusal is alleged to be linked to Nwinyi's ethnic background, as Audi's actions have created uncertainty within the command structure.

Senior officials disclosed that no handover took place, which contradicts the long-standing civil service tradition that allows the senior deputy to assume leadership in an acting capacity until a formal appointment is made. Audi, who is set to retire on Friday after completing his tenure, has not followed the expected protocol, leading to concerns among civil society groups regarding representation in top security positions, particularly from the southeastern region.

Nwinyi, who oversees the intelligence and investigation department at NSCDC headquarters, holds a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University and a Master’s degree in Public Business Administration from the University of Calabar.
