NNPP Defends Kwankwaso Against Terrorism Allegations

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by chairman Ahm Ajuji, has formally written to the US Congress to defend its presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, against allegations of terrorism. Ajuji described the accusations as politically motivated and unfairly singling out Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State.

He emphasized that the allegations are controversial and suggested they may be part of a political witch hunt. Ajuji expressed confidence that the explanations provided by the party would clarify any misunderstandings regarding Kwankwaso's alleged links to terrorism.

He highlighted Kwankwaso's record of promoting religious harmony during his governorship and noted that he did not participate in any activities that could be construed as promoting terrorism. Additionally, Ajuji mentioned a proposed legislation by US lawmakers aimed at increasing accountability for human rights abuses in Nigeria, including potential sanctions against Fulani militia, and referenced the introduction of the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2026.
