Terrorists Attack Kebbi Mosque, Five Worshippers Killed

On February 24, 2023, terrorists attacked a mosque in the Dadinkowa community of Maiyama Local Government Area, Kebbi State, during Taraweeh prayers, resulting in the deaths of five worshippers and injuries to three others. The attack was reportedly a reprisal following a failed ambush on a convoy led by Maj Gen Bemgha Koughna, the General Officer Commanding the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army.

The ambush occurred when the convoy was navigating forest terrain near Mayama Hill, where troops engaged the attackers in a fierce gun duel, neutralizing five of them. The incident has raised concerns about security in Kebbi State, particularly in rural areas vulnerable to such reprisals.

The Nigerian Air Force has expressed readiness to receive AH-1Z helicopters from the United States, with discussions ongoing to ensure operational readiness upon delivery, highlighting the ongoing defense cooperation between Nigeria and the U.S.
