TETFund Denies New Projects to Institutions with Delays

The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) announced that institutions with delayed intervention projects will be ineligible for new projects in the 2027 intervention cycle. This decision, communicated by the Director of Public Affairs, Abdulmumin Oniyangi, aims to tackle persistent delays in TETFund-sponsored projects.

Chairman Hon. Aminu Masari attributed these delays to rising construction material costs and internal bureaucratic issues within institutions.

In 2023, TETFund introduced a special intervention line to assist stalled projects, which has reportedly seen success. However, Masari expressed concern over some institutions' inability to complete projects on time, often due to changes in leadership and payment processing delays.

The BOT has mandated that institutions submit lists of projects overdue by more than six months, with proposed remedies. Institutions must prioritize these projects and utilize their allocations to complete them.

Monitoring teams will assess affected projects in August and September 2026, ahead of the October meeting for the 2027 project cycle.
