TETFund to Launch Four Zonal Labs by 2027

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is set to operationalize four multipurpose zonal laboratories across Nigeria by 2027, as disclosed by Sonni Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund. This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the research ecosystem and support industrial development in the country.

Echono revealed that the project follows recommendations from an advisory committee chaired by Chris Maiyaki, the former acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, which was inaugurated on February 17, 2026. The laboratories will be strategically located across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

Echono emphasized the importance of modern laboratories in light of recent global advancements in science and technology. Bayero University Kano is among the first institutions to receive equipment, with three laboratories expected to reach advanced completion stages by February next year.

TETFund aims to synchronize equipment procurement and installation to ensure that the laboratories are fully operational by 2027.
