NDDC Launches Reconstruction of Sapele-Benin Expressway

On a recent Friday, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) commenced the reconstruction of the 15.4 kilometres Sapele-Benin Expressway, aiming to ease the hardships faced by residents and businesses along this vital corridor. NDDC Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku expressed apologies to community leaders and commuters for the extended difficulties caused by the road's poor condition.

The intervention was prompted by severe traffic issues on the Benin-Asaba road, where motorists experienced significant delays, with some travelers taking up to three days for a journey that should take less than two hours. Works Minister David Umahi acknowledged the situation, while Senator Adams Oshiomhole criticized the Minister for neglecting roads in Edo and Delta States.

The NDDC board also urged for similar interventions on the Amukpe-Abraka-Agbor Road and the Sapele-Warri Road. The systemic neglect of federal roads has raised concerns about safety and accessibility across Nigeria's extensive road network.
