THE REGISTRATION OF NEW VOTERS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general election, with online registration starting on August 18 and in-person registration beginning on August 25. INEC aims to enhance the electoral process by ensuring easy identification through an online CVR live locator.

The commission plans to have 811 registration centers across the 774 local government headquarters nationwide. The integrity of the voter registration process is crucial for the credibility of elections, as past exercises have seen issues like double registration and invalidated registrations.

INEC is working to correct these issues and ensure a credible voter register to prevent the systematic disenfranchisement of Nigerians. The commission urges eligible voters to participate in the registration process and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to actively engage in the democratic process.
