University of Essex Celebrates Summer Graduation 2026

The University of Essex's Summer Graduation 2026 took place from July 13 to July 17, 2026, showcasing the achievements of Nigerian graduates. Notably, Oluwademiladeola Ugunna Opara graduated with first-class honors in robot engineering, receiving a prize for his performance.

The ceremony aimed to highlight the positive contributions of Nigerians, countering negative stereotypes often associated with the country, particularly in light of comments made by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The event emphasized the intellectual capabilities of Nigerians and their potential to contribute positively to society. The university reported that 89 graduates secured employment or continued their studies within 15 months of graduation.

The ceremony also marked a significant milestone for the university's robot engineering program, which began in the 2022-2023 academic year, producing its first set of graduates in 2025 and continuing to foster innovation in engineering education.
