UNN Celebrates 168 First Class Graduates at Convocation

At the 55th convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), a total of 12,895 students graduated, with 168 earning First Class honors. Vice-Chancellor Prof.

Simon Ortuanya reported that among the graduates, 10,641 received first degrees and diploma certificates, while 2,994 obtained higher degree certificates, including 1,390 PhDs and 1,340 Master’s degrees. Ortuanya addressed the challenges of infrastructural decay faced upon his assumption of office, emphasizing a commitment to rebuilding and enhancing academic excellence.

His administration has initiated over 100 strategic projects across the Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla campuses, focusing on comprehensive road reconstruction and hostel rehabilitation. Significant progress was made in program quality, with an increase in Medicine admissions from 180 to 400 and Dentistry from 15 to 60, following inspections by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

Additionally, the National Universities Commission approved the unbundling of the Department of Mass Communication into five specialized programs, and four new programs received full accreditation.
