Trump Calls AI Opposition a 'Sick Conspiracy' Against U.S.

U.S. President Donald Trump described opposition to artificial intelligence (AI) development as a "sick conspiracy," asserting the necessity for the U.S. to maintain its technological lead over China.

His remarks targeted Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who advocated for caution and monitoring in AI advancements. Trump stated that the only necessary "guardrails" for AI are strong presidential leadership and effective regulation, claiming his administration had already taken steps to curb harmful activities by AI companies.

He accused unnamed opponents of undermining AI and data center development, suggesting that only China benefits from such opposition. Trump's comments followed Amodei's calls for caution, which were supported by other tech leaders, including Elon Musk and Sam Altman of OpenAI.

Altman emphasized the need for independent evaluators in AI development to prevent excessive concentration of power. Additionally, Anthropic is involved in a legal dispute with the U.S. government regarding military use of its AI technology, having been designated a supply chain risk by the Department of Defense in February.
