NNPP Withdraws Candidate from Kano By-Election Amid Pressure

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) announced its withdrawal from the Kano State House of Assembly by-election, citing coercion and pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Engr.

Ibrahim Karay, the party's candidate, explained that the decision was made to avoid disqualification by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to fears of double nominations. The withdrawal was also a means to honor the families of two deceased lawmakers, Aminu Sa and Sarki Aliyu, by adopting their family members as candidates.

Despite the withdrawal, the NNPP maintained its commitment to its political future and did not abandon its stance. The election was held across 1,014 polling units in 24 registered areas of Ungogo, with reports indicating a peaceful voting process, although turnout was low.

Major opposition parties, including the People's Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress, were not listed on the ballot paper, while other parties like APC, APN, APP, PRP, WPP, and ZLP participated.
