Olumide Akpata Joins ADC, Leaving Labour Party Behind

On Tuesday, Olumide Akpata, the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, formally defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a ceremony at the party's secretariat in Benin, Edo State. The ADC state chairman, Kennedi Odion, presented Akpata with his membership card in the presence of prominent party leaders, including Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant and former governor of Anambra State, and Chief John Odigi Oyegun, the former national chairman of the APC.

Akpata expressed his gratitude for the warm reception he received from the ADC and highlighted his commitment to contributing to the vision of a new Nigeria. He acknowledged the steadfastness of the Obidi movement and reiterated the need to build a nation that works for all Nigerians, not just a select few.

Akpata's move to the ADC is seen as a significant political shift ahead of the Edo governorship elections scheduled for December 31, 2025.
