Delta Police Arrest Trio for N5.4m Fraud Scheme

The Delta State Police Command arrested three men, Aghogho Okpogbodu (51), Moses Exist (48), and Benjamin Owah (49), for allegedly defrauding a community leader from Otu-Jeremi of N5.475 million. The suspects promised to facilitate the victim's appointment as president-general of his community by impersonating high-ranking officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
They utilized SIM cards linked to the identities of these officials and caller-identification applications to deceive the victim. Following an investigation, detectives from the Area Command in Effurun apprehended the suspects and recovered seven mobile phones, 17 SIM cards, 12 ATM cards with different names, a Point-of-Sale terminal, and documents containing financial and identification details of various individuals.
Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale cautioned the public against relying on caller-identification applications for verifying identities, especially regarding financial transactions or government appointments. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover additional victims and accomplices.
