Vigilante Group Members Arrested Over Death in Custody

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three members of a vigilante group in connection with the death of 39-year-old Abdulrazak Ibrahim while in their custody in the Bakin Kura area of Bauchi Local Government Area. The incident was reported on Thursday, August 20, 2026, by the Chairman of the Vigilante Group after Ibrahim was invited to their office due to a theft complaint lodged by his mother, Hauwa Ibrahim.

Preliminary investigations indicated that he died during the process of inquiry. The police deployed detectives to the scene, and the three vigilante members on duty at the time were arrested to assist with the investigation.

The deceased's body was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for preservation, where a physical examination revealed no visible signs of violence. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
