TikTok Addresses Access Issues in Northern Nigeria

TikTok has officially denied restricting access to its platform in parts of Northern Nigeria, specifically in Kaduna, Kebbi, Kano, and Sokoto. Keagile Makgoba, TikTok’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, made this statement on Monday amid reports of users experiencing difficulties accessing the service since September 14.
Users reported challenges in loading videos, viewing content, and uploading materials. Makgoba emphasized that the restriction was not implemented by TikTok and that the company is actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to resolve the reported access issues.
Additionally, a coalition of civil society organizations has called for an independent investigation into the disruptions, urging authorities and telecommunications operators to clarify whether the issues stem from a directive or a technical problem.
