TikToker Raises Alarm Over Lagos BRT Safety Issues

Onyinyechi Nwachukwu, a TikTok content creator popularly known as Darkskin Ella, has voiced concerns for her safety after exposing the ongoing crisis with the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Lagos. In a viral video posted on Wednesday, she highlighted the long queues and bus shortages at the Ikorodu terminal, which drew significant public attention and prompted a response from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

Despite the agency's claims of deploying additional buses, Nwachukwu reported that the situation worsened, with long queues reappearing. She encountered intimidation from individuals she suspected were thugs monitoring the terminal.

Nwachukwu expressed her fear of being falsely implicated in an arrest and stated that her intention was to document the daily struggles of commuters, who often wait for hours despite paying for transport services. LAMATA's head of corporate communications, Kolawole Ojelabi, denied any confrontations involving Nwachukwu and attributed the issues to enforcement of filming restrictions within transport facilities.
