NYWOPEM and #FixNASS2027 Launched to Empower Youth

On February 16, 2026, prominent figures including Prof. Pat Utomi, Femi Falana, SAN, and Comrad Kennedi Iyere unveiled the Nigerian Youth Women Political Emancipation Movement (NYWOPEM) and launched the #FixNASS2027 civic campaign in Lagos.

This initiative aims to mobilize youth and women to challenge elite political dominance in Nigeria. Iyere, the founder of the Youth Off the Street Initiative (YOTSI), emphasized the need for a unified electoral engagement platform for youth and women, who represent a significant portion of the electorate yet remain underrepresented in political positions.

The #FixNASS2027 campaign seeks to enhance grassroots voter mobilization and encourage ordinary Nigerians to run for legislative offices in the 2027 elections. The movement is non-partisan and focuses on supporting exemplary candidates regardless of their political affiliations.

Falana called for urgent amendments to the electoral act to ensure real-time electronic transmission of election results, following a Supreme Court judgment that highlighted the necessity of such measures for future elections.
