Dr Funmi Adewara Advocates for Telehealth in Nigeria

During the 2026 Eko Health Conference held on Thursday and Friday in Lagos, Dr Funmi Adewara, the founder of Mobihealth International, stressed the critical need to position telehealth and digital health technologies at the forefront of Nigeria's healthcare planning and delivery. This call was prompted by remarks from Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, who indicated that Lagos has approximately 7,000 doctors but requires an estimated 40,000 to adequately serve its growing population.

Dr Adewara stated that the current healthcare crisis cannot be resolved through traditional means, asserting, “We cannot build our way out of this crisis. We must innovate our way out.” She advocated for the urgent adoption of digital health innovations, particularly to address the shortage of healthcare workers in rural areas of Nigeria.
