Tinubu Appoints Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Yuguda as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on a Wednesday, with the appointment subject to Senate confirmation. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, announced the appointment.

Yuguda's nomination follows the recent appointment of Mr. Bala Bello as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

Yuguda is expected to bring renewed dedication and professionalism to his role, contributing to Nigeria's economic stability and growth. His last public position was as Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2020 to 2024.

He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University in 1983 with a B.Sc. in Accounting and obtained a Master’s degree in Money, Banking, and Finance from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a CFA charter holder.

Yuguda began his career in 1984 at the CBN as a Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department and served as an economist at the African Department of the International Monetary Fund from 1997 to 2001 before returning to the CBN, where he retired in 2016 after serving as Director of the Reserve Management Department for six years.
