Tinubu Unveils Major NYSC Reforms, Graduation Ceremony Replaces Parade

President Bola Tinubu has approved comprehensive reforms for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) aimed at modernizing the scheme and improving the welfare and safety of corps members. The reforms include the replacement of the traditional passing out parade with a graduation ceremony.

Tinubu directed the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, alongside the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawand, to amend the NYSC Act and relevant regulations to reflect these changes. The reforms will introduce a technology-driven mobilization process designed to enhance efficiency and transparency in the deployment of corps members nationwide.

A risk-sensitive deployment system will be adopted to account for prevailing security conditions. Additionally, the orientation program will be redesigned to emphasize leadership development, entrepreneurship, and digital skill acquisition.

The federal government also approved improvements to orientation camp facilities and the introduction of a national grade certification system to raise standards across NYSC camps.
