Tinubu Condemns Killing of Oyo Teacher, Vows Rescue

President Bola Tinubu condemned the killing of an abducted teacher from Esiel Community in Oyo State, describing the act as barbaric. In a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, by his special adviser, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed sympathy for the affected families.

He assured Nigerians that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining victims. The abduction occurred during an attack on schools in the Esiel Community, where staff and students were taken hostage.

The federal government is collaborating with the Oyo State government to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals. Tinubu commended the quick intervention of the Inspector General of Police and the deployment of tactical intelligence teams.

He reiterated support for the establishment of state police to address the growing cases of kidnapping across the country and emphasized the urgent need for legislative action to decentralize policing in underserved areas.
