Tinubu Faces Disqualification Suit Over Alleged Forged Certificates

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, is facing a fresh legal challenge concerning alleged forged academic certificates. The suit was filed on June 26, 2026, in the Federal High Court in Kano by the Central Reform Public Advocacy, which seeks to bar Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

The case, marked FHC/KNS/CS/312/2026, names Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants. The plaintiffs argue that Tinubu knowingly submitted false information regarding his educational qualifications, specifically concerning his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) records and certificates from Chicago State University.

They claim that the documents submitted to INEC raise serious legal and constitutional concerns, including inconsistencies in Tinubu's academic records. The plaintiffs are requesting the court to declare Tinubu ineligible for the 2027 presidential election and to direct INEC to disqualify him from future nominations.

Additionally, they seek a perpetual injunction to prevent INEC from recognizing Tinubu as a valid candidate.
