APC to Announce Aspirants' Fate for 2027 Elections

Today, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to announce the clearance of over 2,620 aspirants for various positions in the upcoming 2027 elections. This includes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who faces a challenge from Osifo Stanlei for the presidential ticket.

The APC has screened 2,980 aspirants for positions including 28 governorship slots, 109 Senate seats, and 360 House of Representatives seats. The screening process occurred from May 8 to May 12.

Among those awaiting clearance is Hope Uzodimma, the current Governor of Imo State, who is seeking a Senate seat. Uzodimma, also the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, is under pressure to drop his Senate ambition to avoid political crises.

Other notable aspirants include Siminalayi Fubara from Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and several former governors and lawmakers. Tensions are rising within the APC as aspirants demand direct primaries instead of a consensus arrangement, with warnings from the party's leadership against disruptive actions.
