Pressure Mounts on Abba Yusuf for Kano Deputy Governor

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf is under pressure from political figures, including former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, to select a new deputy governor amid competing interests within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following a recent visit to Ganduje in Abuja, there is speculation that this move aims to strengthen ties with the party's old guard.

Ganduje reportedly supports Murtala Sule Garo for the deputy governorship position; however, Garo's nomination faces resistance from influential political blocs, particularly from Kano North and Kano South, including Senator Barau Jibrin and Kawu Sumaila, who advocate for a three-man shortlist instead of endorsing a single candidate. Concerns have been raised regarding Garo's legal issues, including corruption charges, which complicate his candidacy.

Other potential candidates being considered include Salisu Sagir Takai and Kabiru Lakwaya. The political landscape is further complicated by an earlier agreement involving Jibrin Falgor, who has support from a significant number of members in the Kano State House of Assembly.

Governor Yusuf is urged to reconcile factions to reach a consensus on the candidate.
