Tinubu Immune from Arrest During UNGA, Says Jimoh Ibrahim

Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, confirmed that President Bola Tinubu will not face arrest or movement restrictions during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Ibrahim stated that the Nigerian Mission to the UN has not received any communication from the U.S. government indicating potential restrictions.

He highlighted that representatives of UN member states are protected under Section 11 of the 1947 UN-U.S. Agreement, which safeguards them from impediments while traveling to and from the UN headquarters.

Ibrahim clarified that allegations against an individual do not equate to criminality without due process. He dismissed the notion that social media could lead to Tinubu's arrest, asserting that such efforts would be futile.

The context of these statements arises from renewed discussions regarding past allegations involving Tinubu and a narcotics investigation, including a civil forfeiture case of about $460,000, which did not result in a criminal conviction against him.
