Tinubu inaugurates N5 road project, pledges end to abandoned infrastructure

President Tinubu commissioned the Arterial Road N5 in Abuja and urged residents to pay taxes to fund ongoing capital development.
President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated the completed Arterial Road N5 project in Abuja, which connects Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in the Dape district. The president used the occasion to announce his administration's commitment to completing infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory rather than leaving them unfinished, a pattern he described as a recurring problem in Nigeria's development history.
Tinubu stated that the FCT must evolve into a modern capital city that reflects Nigeria's expanding population, economic ambitions, and national identity. He highlighted improved transport connectivity as essential to reducing shipping costs, attracting investment, and creating jobs across the territory.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the president at the road commissioning, underscoring the administration's prioritization of infrastructure as a measure of serious governance. The president linked the success of ongoing capital development to tax compliance and ground rent payments from residents and businesses in the FCT.
He appealed to citizens to meet their financial obligations, arguing that government revenue from these sources remains critical for sustaining infrastructure projects across the nation's capital. Tinubu urged property owners and business operators to clear outstanding fees and ground rents, framing compliance as essential support for the administration's development agenda.
The Arterial Road N5 project is expected to improve access to growing residential communities and industrial districts within Abuja, including the IDU industrial zone. The infrastructure work reflects the broader strategy to enhance connectivity within the capital territory as it accommodates Nigeria's increasing urban population.
