Amaechi Accuses Tinubu of Creating Hunger for Votes

Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transport, accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of deliberately worsening the economic hardship in Nigeria to gain political advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections. During an interview, Amaechi stated that the current administration has exacerbated hunger and the rising cost of living, using these issues as tools to influence voters during elections.

He criticized politicians for distributing food items as temporary relief instead of addressing the root causes of economic hardship. Amaechi, who is seeking the presidency under the African Democratic Congress, claimed that political actors often rely on providing material security, such as bags of rice, to secure votes during election cycles, which he believes does not solve the underlying economic problems facing the country.
