Tinubu to Chair Summit on Africa's Mineral Wealth

President Bola Tinubu, the Chairperson of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), is set to lead a high-level summit on critical minerals in Manhattan, New York, on September 21, 2026. This meeting will occur on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The summit, themed “From Resources to Wealth: Continental Cooperation for Mineral Value Addition,” aims to address the historical trend of Africa exporting its mineral resources in raw form, which limits the continent's economic benefits. The gathering will include African leaders, government representatives, global investors, and executives from various sectors.

The AMSG intends to shift the focus from the traditional extract-and-export model to building integrated mineral value chains, attracting transformative capital, and enhancing continental cooperation. This summit will also mark the next phase of the Mutual Assured Development framework initiated at the African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit held in Abuja earlier in 2026.
