Tinubu to Lead Africa's Critical Minerals Initiative in NY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to lead a significant African initiative aimed at enhancing control over the continent's critical mineral resources during the Africa Minerals Strategy Group's (AMSG) Third High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa. This event will take place on September 21, 2026, in Manhattan, New York, coinciding with the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Tinubu, who chairs the AMSG General Assembly, will preside over the meeting themed “From Resources to Wealth: Continental Cooperation for Mineral Value Addition.” The Roundtable will gather African Heads of State, government representatives, ministers, investors, and executives from various sectors. The meeting aims to address the challenge of exporting raw minerals with minimal processing and to capitalize on the rising global demand for minerals like lithium and cobalt.

A key feature will be the unveiling of the Continental Integration and Economic Assurance Declaration (CIEAD), which will establish a framework for coordinated African action on critical minerals.
