Tinubu and Macron Forge Military Alliance Against Terrorism

President Bola Tinubu has announced a new military alliance with France to bolster Nigeria's efforts against rising terrorism and insecurity. This development was confirmed during a meeting with state governors at the Ikoyi residence in Lagos, shortly after Tinubu's two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.

The partnership aims to enhance Nigeria's military capabilities through French support in military equipment and operational assistance. Tinubu emphasized the need for Nigeria to utilize existing goodwill and financial arrangements to acquire necessary tools to confront violent threats.

He described insecurity as a significant challenge for his administration, urging governors to remain committed to restoring peace across the country. The discussions with Macron also included collaboration with the United States for equipment and training support.

Tinubu highlighted the impact of global tensions, particularly the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, on Nigeria's economy, warning of inflationary pressures that could worsen living costs. The alliance with France is part of a long-standing military presence in West Africa, particularly in the Sahel region, to combat extremist groups.
