Tinubu Invites China for Marine Economy Partnership

President Bola Tinubu has invited the People’s Republic of China to collaborate with Nigeria by sharing geophysical data, technology, and technical expertise to enhance the country's marine economy. This invitation was presented by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, during a keynote address at the United Nations Sustainable Development Workshop on High-quality Development of the Marine Economy in Beijing.

Ibrahim emphasized Nigeria's ambition to become a leading marine economy and highlighted the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy as a commitment to this sector. He stated that Nigeria seeks strategic cooperation from China, focusing on data access and technology transfer rather than financial assistance.

Ibrahim called for international cooperation to address challenges like climate change and unsustainable resource exploitation, urging a shift towards innovation and data-driven approaches. He also proposed that the International Monetary Fund provide zero-interest financing to support blue economy development, reiterating Nigeria's open invitation to China for strategic partnership.
