Tinubu Proposes China Partnership for Marine Economy

President Bola Tinubu has proposed a strategic partnership with China centered on geophysical data to bolster Nigeria's marine economy. This initiative was articulated by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, during the United Nations Sustainable Development Workshop on High-quality Development of the Marine Economy held in Beijing, China.

Ambassador Ibrahim stated that the partnership aims to prioritize technology transfer and data-driven collaboration over traditional aid. He highlighted Nigeria's vision to utilize geophysical intelligence and marine research to foster sustainable economic growth, positioning Nigeria among leading nations in the blue economy.

The President's invitation to China reflects a belief that access to oceanographic data will yield greater long-term economic benefits than reliance on foreign aid. Ibrahim commended China's leadership in the global blue economy and reiterated Nigeria's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in maritime development.

He also advocated for innovative financing mechanisms to support developing countries in building resilient blue economy infrastructure.
