Tinubu Aims for Stronger Nigeria-UK Ties with Burnham

President Bola Tinubu congratulated Andy Burnham on his inauguration as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, expressing hope for enhanced strategic partnerships between Nigeria and the UK under Burnham's leadership. Tinubu praised the UK for a peaceful transition of power, reflecting strong democratic institutions.

The statement, issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted Tinubu's previous productive engagement with former Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his official visit to the UK in March 2026. Tinubu expressed confidence that Burnham would build on the achievements of that visit.

He indicated a desire to explore new avenues for partnership and cooperation, both bilaterally and through multilateral platforms like the Commonwealth. Tinubu also assured Burnham of Nigeria's commitment to working closely with his administration to address common global challenges and strengthen bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
