Tinubu Requests Senate Confirmation for INEC Nominee

President Bola Tinubu has formally sought the Senate's confirmation of Jamila Abubakar as a commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing Adamawa State. This request was communicated in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read during a plenary session on Tuesday.

The request aligns with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). Tinubu expressed hope that the Senate would expedite the confirmation process.

Following this, Akpabio assured that the request would be referred to the Senate Committee on INEC for further legislative input before returning to plenary within the week. Additionally, Tinubu submitted a separate letter urging the Senate to confirm the nomination of Amb.

Ismail Yusuf as the chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), in accordance with the provisions of Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act 2026.
