Tinubu Appoints Dr. Darma as New Housing Minister

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu swore in Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development during a brief ceremony at the State House in Abuja.

This appointment comes at a challenging time for national development, as Tinubu highlighted the need for competent leadership to tackle pressing issues. Darma replaces Ahm Musa Dangiwa, who recently resigned.

In his remarks, Darma pledged to deploy innovative strategies to address Nigeria's significant housing shortfall, estimated at 20 million units affecting around 100 million people. He acknowledged the challenges ahead, including funding bottlenecks and inefficiencies in government-led housing delivery.

Darma, a distinguished Nigerian scholar with a PhD in Industrial Engineering, emphasized the importance of understanding the terrain and expressed intent to improve the existing delivery model while leveraging the private sector's capacity to bridge the housing deficit. He previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund from 2008 to 2012.
