Tinubu Urges Local Government Chairmen on Governance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the chairmen of Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas, urging them to implement the principles of federal character into practical, inclusive governance at the grassroots level. This appeal was made during a keynote address delivered by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, at the Federal Character Commission’s national workshop in Abuja.

The workshop, themed “Translating Federal Character Principles into Local Governance: Bridging Policy and Practice,” aimed to enhance the implementation of federal character and grassroots development. Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s diversity as a significant asset and stressed the need for fairness, justice, and inclusion in governance.

He stated that local councils are crucial in connecting citizens with the state and urged chairmen to prioritize national unity over sectional interests. Hon.
