Tinubu to Undertake First Nigerian Leader State Visit to UK in 37 Years

Nigerian politician Tinubu, accompanied by his wife Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is scheduled to embark on a two-day state visit to the UK on March 18. This visit, initiated at the behest of King Charles III, will be the first state visit to the UK by a Nigerian leader in 37 years.

Previous Nigerian state visits to the UK were undertaken by Yakubu Gowon in 1973, Shehu Shagari in 1981, and Ibrahim Babangida in 1989. Although this is Tinubu's first state visit to the UK, he previously met King Charles III in November 2023.

During the meeting, they discussed global and regional issues, focusing on urgent challenges like climate change. The visit is seen as a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and the UK.
