Tinubu's Education Plan to Transform Nigerian Police

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Nigerian Minister of Education, outlined a strategy to reposition the Nigerian Police Force through enhanced educational initiatives during a meeting in Abuja with Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu and senior police officers. This initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu's agenda to improve security delivery across the country.

The proposed establishment of a southern campus for a police academy in Abeokuta, Ogun State, aims to commence operations with its first student intake scheduled between September and November 2026. The Minister emphasized the need for expedited resource verification by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to facilitate the academy's activities.

Plans also include converting 42 police colleges nationwide into monotechnics to strengthen technical training within the force. Three committees have been formed to drive the implementation, focusing on resource verification, infrastructure development, and collaboration with educational bodies.

The initiative has received support from various stakeholders, including the Deputy Inspector General and the Minister of State for Education.
