Tinubu's Education Initiative to Strengthen Nigerian Police

President Bola Tinubu's administration is set to reposition the Nigerian Police Force through enhanced educational initiatives, as stated by Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Police Affairs.

During a meeting in Abuja with Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu and senior police officials, Alausa discussed the establishment of a southern campus for the police academy in Abeokuta, Ogun State. This initiative aligns with Tinubu's agenda to improve security delivery across Nigeria.

The first set of students is expected to be admitted between September and November 2026, pending expedited resource verification by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Alausa also revealed plans to convert 42 police colleges nationwide into monotechnics to strengthen technical training within the force.

The initiative includes a presidential waiver for security-related courses and aims to enhance police operational capacity. Three committees will drive the implementation, focusing on resource verification, technical education, and infrastructure development, with support from TETFund and senior police officials.
