Tinubu to Inaugurate Aba-Port Harcourt Highway May 12

President Bola Tinubu is set to visit the Southsouth and Southeast regions of Nigeria on May 12, 2026, as announced by the presidency. The visit will include an inspection of the Aba-Port Harcourt section of the East-West Road in Abia State, which is a critical economic artery linking Abia and River States.

The project, which spans 43 kilometers, is being handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and is reported to be 90% complete. Former Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi noted that the project had stalled for a year due to funding constraints, but the current administration has intervened to ensure the contractor completes the remaining work.

Umahi emphasized that resources would be concentrated on the Aba-bound carriageway to fast-track delivery, with outstanding payments expected to be addressed within the week. The completion of the project is anticipated within twelve months, with a commitment to finish by April, ahead of the president's visit.
