Tinubu Launches 198km Water Pipeline Project in FCT

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu announced a commitment to provide potable water to communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by inaugurating a 198-kilometer water pipeline network. This initiative will cover areas including Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji, and is expected to be completed by the end of his tenure.

The project aims to address the reliance on untreated boreholes and streams for water supply, which has been deemed unacceptable. First Lady Oluremi Tinubu represented the President at the ceremony, emphasizing that access to clean water is a fundamental right.

The project is anticipated to generate approximately 1,600 direct and indirect jobs for youth during its construction phase. Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, confirmed that this is the 50th project inaugurated in the FCT in 2023, with at least ten more projects expected to be completed by January 2027.

UNICEF reports that around 60 million Nigerians lack access to safe water, making this initiative crucial for public health.
