Tinubu Not Dictating National Policing Bill Contents

Mr. Nnadubem Moghalu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Planning and Research and Secretary of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, stated that President Tinubu has not specified provisions for the proposed legislation.

Moghalu emphasized that the bill is being developed through an inclusive consultation process involving experts, state governments, and the public. The President's goal is to create an effective policing framework that supports Nigeria's evolving security architecture.

Moghalu clarified that the working group is focused on legislation that strengthens public safety and provides legal guidance for federal and state police operations. He noted that the recent constitutional amendment allows for a dual policing structure, which the National Policing Bill will operationalize.

The group is addressing critical issues such as funding, recruitment, training, command structure, and conflict resolution between policing authorities.
